What to expect at your first cleaning

Visiting the dentist for the first time doesn’t have to be stressful. At Lone Peak Dental, we want you to feel comfortable, informed, and confident every step of the way. Here’s what you can expect when you come in for your first cleaning.

Before your Appointment

Before your visit, be sure to complete any new patient forms on our webpage at www.lonepeakdental.com or print them out and bring them with you. If you have dental insurance, please bring your information so our front office can verify your benefits ahead of time. We recommend arriving a few minutes early to check in, ask questions, and get settled. A traditional cleaning appointment typically takes about 45–80 minutes.

Health Review

Once you’re checked in, a friendly team member will review your medical and dental history with you. This helps us better understand your needs and provide the best possible care. You’ll also have a chance to share any concerns, such as sensitivity, pain, or goals you have for your smile.

Comprehensive Oral Exam and Cleaning

Next, our Dental Hygienist will examine your teeth and gums to evaluate your overall oral health. X-rays may be taken to check for cavities and see what’s happening between your teeth and the health of your jawbone. An oral cancer screening is also included as part of your exam. Your hygienist will then gently remove plaque and tartar that can’t be removed with brushing alone. Your teeth will be polished and flossed, leaving your smile feeling fresh and clean.

One-on-One Consultation

After your cleaning and exam, Dr. Lorscheider will review the results with you. If any concerns are found, you’ll receive a personalized treatment plan. This is the perfect time to ask questions about home care, recommended treatments, and next steps for keeping your smile healthy.

Finances & Next Steps

Before you leave, our team will go over your insurance benefits or payment options with you. We’ll also help you schedule your next cleaning or any follow-up visits. For most patients, the American Dental Association recommends professional cleanings every three to six months to maintain healthy teeth and gums.

Tips for a Smooth First Visit

  • Try to brush and floss before your appointment if you can.

  •  Bring a list of questions — no question is too small.

  • If dental visits make you nervous, let us know. We’re here to help you feel comfortable.
