During the root canal process, the inflamed pulp (the connective tissue within the center of a tooth) is removed. The interior surfaces of the tooth are then cleaned and disinfected, and a filling or crown is placed to seal the tooth from further damage or infection. A root canal may be needed if the inside of your tooth becomes inflamed from:​

• repeated dental procedures

• faulty crowns

• an abscess

• severe cracks/chips
